PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team picked up their fourth result in a row as they picked up a 0-0 double overtime tie with Concordia University, St. Paul Friday night at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul, Minn. The Golden Eagles were pitted against Coach Joe Alianiello's former squad as he was the coach at Concordia from 2006-10. The Golden Eagles move to 2-2-3 (1-1-2 NSIC) with the draw. Concordia-St. Paul is 1-4-1 (1-2-1). The Golden Eagles had three shots on goal, led by two from
Delaney McIntyre (Jr., MF, Sports and Rec Management).
Lexie Gauger (So., GK, Green Bay, Wis./Criminal Justice) picked up her third shutout of the season as Gauger has found great form recently, giving up just two goals in the last four games, aided by
Rachelle Alcini (Sr., D, Ann Arbor, Mich./Health Science) rest of UMC's back line. Gauger had six saves on the game.
After going scoreless through regulation, UMC had a shot late in the first overtime as McIntyre put one on frame, which was saved by Concordia keeper Emma Gartner. Gauger came up with a save in the second overtime on a Jessica Bianchi shot.
Bianchi and Alahna Anderson led Concordia with two shots on goal apiece. Gartner had three saves for the Golden Bears on the night.
The tie against the Golden Bears marks the first time in school history that UMC has picked up three-consecutive NSIC road results showing marked improvement for the UMC soccer program in year three under Alianiello.
UMC will have a tall task ahead of them Sun., Sept. 28 as they take on No. 2 Minnesota State University, Mankato at 1 p.m. on the Pitch.
