GRAND FORKS, N.D. –The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team led at half 31-28 over 2013-14 NCAA Division I Tournament Participant University of North Dakota but an explosive second half for UND would catapult North Dakota to a 70-50 exhibition win.
Emily Evers and Siri Burck led UND with nine points apiece in the second half as they out-scored UMC 42-19.
Alexa Thielman (Jr., G, Buffalo, Minn./Health Science) and
Micaela Noga (Fr., G, Parkers Prairie, Minn./Health Management) led UMC in the first half with eight points apiece. The Golden Eagles shot 36.7 percent in the half, while hitting 3-of-7 attempts for 42.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Katrina Moenkedick (Jr., F, Perham, Minn./Applied Studies) led UMC with 10 points, along with Noga who also scored 10 in her debut in the Maroon and Gold. Thielman finished with eight while freshman center
Emily Gruber (Monticello, Minn./Undecided) finished with six points.
Ebony Livingston (Sr., G/F, Minneapolis, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) aded five points.
The Golden Eagles did show a strong precence in the post against a physical and long team in UND.
Megan Taylor (So., C, Estelline, S.D.) finished with four points and five rebounds, while
Isieoma Odor (Fr., F/C, Bloomington, Minn./Health Management) jad two points and four rebounds and Gruber had six points and three rebounds.
UMC shot 19-of-62 from the field for 30.6 percent and 4-of-13 for 30.8 percent from beyond the arc.
North Dakota looked to Evers, who had 17 points and 13 rebounds. Mia Loyd added nine points and 14 rebounds. Burck finished with 12 points, while Megan Lauck had 13 off the bench.
UND shot 26-of-61 for 42.6 percent from the field, but were just 1-of-6 for 16.7 percent from three and 17-of-33 for 51.5 percent from the charity stripe. UND also used their size, out-rebounding UMC 55-33.
The Golden Eagles will take part in the Highway 75 Classic in Moorhead, Minn., as they take on Northern Michigan University Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. UMC will then take on University of Wisconsin-Parkside Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.
