The Scoop The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles host the University of Mary Marauders for their Homecoming game Sat., Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at Ed Widseth Field. The Golden Eagles are seeking their first win of the season as they take on the Marauders. UMC is 0-6 on the season. U-Mary is 3-3 on the year. The Golden Eagles have won their last two Homecoming wins with a victory over Southwest Minnesota State University in 2012 and a win over Bemidji State University in 2013.
Previewing the Golden Eagles The Golden Eagles have made strides this season but have been unable to get into the win column. UMC is led by junior quarterback
Ben Bucholz, who comes into Saturday's game with 944 passing yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions. His top target this year has been freshman wide receiver
Adam Connette, who has 28 receptions for 302 yards with two touchdowns. In addition, senior
Marcus Cheatham has 12 receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown. Senior co-captain
Sam Smith continues to be a steady force on the offensive line as he is slated to make his 40th consecutive start.
Defensively, UMC has been led by linebacker
Greg Lofquist, who has been all over the field this season. Lofquist has 79 tackles, which is just behind Marauders' linebacker Grant Singer, an All-American last season. In addition, sophomore safety
Trent Galkoski comes in with 42 tackles, while defensive line
Drew Selvestra has 43 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
Previewing the Marauders U-Mary is 3-3 and 1-1 in the NSIC with wins over Minot State University, Concordia University and Southwest Minnesota State University. The Marauders are in their first season under Head Coach Josh Kotelnicki, who came over from University of North Dakota, where he served as an assistant. U-Mary is led by Ben Jolliffe, who has 750 yards passing with eight touchdown and 232 yards rushing with two touchdowns. The Marauders' running game has been led by Vince Ferrante, who has 69 carries for 230 yards, while Dariouse Gravely has 52 carries for 200 yards. In the passing game, Elby Pope leads the way with 29 receptions for 347 yards and four touchdowns.
Defensively, Singer leads the way with 80 tackles, which leads the NSIC. Singer has seven tackles for loss and two interceptions. In addition to Singer, Preston Tescher comes in with 40 tackles, while defensive end Troy Guptill has 30 tackles with eight tackles for loss and six sacks.
