CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagles fell to the 13th-ranked Augustana College Vikings Saturday night inside Lysaker Gymnasium by a score of 93-57. The Vikings benefitted from 12 offensive rebounds in the first half and shot 55.6% from the field in the second half to bring the team to a 11-2 (7-2 NSIC) record. The Golden Eagles fall to a record of 5-8 (2-7 NSIC) after their shooting went cold in the second half, with the team only shooting 25.6% from the field.
The first half of the contest saw the Golden Eagles start out hot, jumping out to an early 10-5 lead highlighted by a pair of three pointers from
Brittany Wiese (Sr., G., Albertville, Minn.) and
Alexa Thielman (Fr., G, Buffalo, Minn.). UMC held the lead until the 13:16 mark, but was not able to continue making shots as the Vikings went on a 12-2 run over the next four minutes. Augustana tallied 12 offensive rebounds in the opening half to help the Vikings to a 41-28 halftime lead.
UMC struggled to find their shooting touch in the second half, which saw the Vikings go on a 16-4 run. Wiese accounted for 10 points and was 2-of-3 from three-point range. Thielman contributed with nine points and three rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
The Vikings used a very balanced attack with four players scoring at least 12 points in the game. Faith Tinklenberg led Augustana with 19 points (3-5 from beyond the arc) and grabbed eight rebounds, while Alex Feeney scored 18 points and 10 rebounds. Shaunteva Ashley tallied 15 points and Riley Nordgaard came off the bench for 12 to round out UMC's double-figure scorers.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, January 14th against Bemidji State University from Lysaker Gymnasium at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.
