(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Women's Soccer team opens the 2012 regular season with a pair of non-conference games at the UMC Soccer Field. The Golden Eagles will face Michigan Tech University (MTU) on Saturday, September 1 at 1 p.m. and Northern Michigan University (NMU) on Monday, September 3 at 12 p.m.
UMC split their two exhibition games defeating Jamestown College 1-0 in double overtime and losing to the University of North Dakota 4-0.
Golden Eagles vs. Michigan Tech University Saturday, September 1 1 p.m.
The Huskies finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 7-9-1and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) record of 5-9-1 which was good for a fifth place in the GLIAC North Division. MTU defeated the Golden Eagles 3-0 last season. Katie Boardman leads all returning scorers having scored seven goals with six assists for 20 points. Mary Beth Spoehr returns in net having recorded 5-9-1 record last season. She had a goals against average of 1.75 and a saves percentage of .743.
Golden Eagles vs. Northern Michigan University Monday, September 3 12 p.m.
The Wildcats finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 10-6-3 and GLIAC record of 8-5-3 which was good for a second place finish in the GLIAC North Division. They will open their season on Thursday, August 30 with a non-conference home game against the University of Minnesota Duluth. NMU defeated the Golden Eagles 3-1 last season. Tevun Sellers leads all returning scorers having recorded six goals for 12 points last season. Untested goal keepers Shelby Conrad and Nicole Musi will handle the net-minding duties. Both are sophomores.
