Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball Closes Out 2011-12 Season with Senior Night

Box Score (Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team hosted Augustana College today in the team's final contest of the season. Despite falling to the Vikings 86-81, the game was more about the contributions of three outstanding Golden Eagle players, Carly Rothstein (F, 5-10, So, St. Michael, Minn.), Lauren Kessler (C, 6-1, Jr, Albertville, Minn.) and Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Sr, Rosemount, Minn.).
 
Rothstein was recognized tonight for her career that has been cut short due to injuries. Carly has played in 48 games and has started 15. She has scored 234 points in her career and is a 78% free-throw shooter. She grabbed 116 rebounds, dished 70 assists and earned 24 steals. Carly is majoring in early childhood education. She is the daughter of Cathy and Tom Rothstein.
 
Kessler was recognized tonight as she plans to graduate early next year. Lauren has played in 79 games and has started 18. She has earned 242 points to date and has averaged 11.5 minutes per game. She has grabbed 214 rebounds, blocked 47 shots, earned 18 steals and dished 37 assists. She was named to the NSIC All-Academic team last season, is a member of the Early Childhood Education Club and was a member of the Dean's list. Lauren is majoring in early childhood education with a minor in coaching. She is the daughter of Gale and Mark Kessler.
 
Eul played in 89 games in her four year career and has started 60. She has averaged 25 minutes per game in her career. She has tallied 936 points, currently fifth all-time and has averaged 10.5 points per game. She amassed 84 steals, 39 blocks, 100 assists and 447 rebounds. Her 321 free-throws made is also good for fifth all-time. Megan is a member of the UMC Student Athlete Advisory Committee, the early childhood club and is a member of the Chancellor's 4.0 club. She has been named NSIC Player of the Week and KROX Athlete of the Week and is a two-time member of the NSIC All-Academic team and will add a third following this season. This year she has also been honored with the Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award and was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's Basketball team. Megan is majoring in early childhood education. She is the daughter of Liz and Craig Eul.
 
The Golden Eagles were led tonight by Eul who earned her second highest point total of the season finishing with 23 points. She was 4-8 from the field and an outstanding 15-17 from the line. She dished two assists and grabbed one steal. Ebony Livingston (G, 5-9, Fr, Minneapolis, Minn.) closed out the season with a career-high 19 points. She was perfect on the night going 6-6 from the field, 2-2 from long range and 5-5 from the free-throw line. She also led the Golden Eagles with six rebounds. Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, Jr, Rosemount, Minn.) closed out the top scorers with 12 points and a team-high three assists and three steals.
 
Augustana was led by Molly Hayes and Alex Feeney who scored 19 points each. Feeney was 7-19 from the field, 1-3 from long range and 4-4 from the free-throw line. She also led all players with 10 rebounds. Lydia Nelson scored 18 points and was followed by Shaunteva Ashley who scored 12 points.
 
Minnesota, Crookston closes out the season at 9-17 on the season and 6-16 in the NSIC. Augustana advances to 21-5 overall and 18-4 in conference play.
