(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Football team returns to Ed Widseth Field this Saturday, October 1 to host the University of Mary in UMC's Homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Golden Eagles look to avenge a 29-22 loss to MSU Moorhead while Mary is coming off a 45-24 loss to #18 St. Cloud State.
Minnesota, Crookston (1-3, 0-3 NSIC)- The Golden Eagle offense had a monstrous day against the Dragons at Alex Nemzek Field. The team rushed 73 times for 364 yards, good for fourth all-time at UMC. Minnesota, Crookston earned 412 total yards on 87 total plays good for fourth all-time in that category as well. UMC was led offensively by
Richard Haley (RB, 6-0, 205, Jr., Detroit, Mich.) who rushed 43 times, third all-time in UMC history, for 237 yards. He averaged 5.5 yards/rush, scored one touchdown and added a long run of 33 yards. This marks the second time this season Haley has rushed for over 200 yards (225 vs. Mayville State) while averaging 176 rushing yards per game. He was also named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week and ranks #1 in rushing in NCAA Division II. A.J. Barge (QB, 6-3, 190, Fr., Carrollton, Ga.) followed Haley with 19 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 5.6 yards/rush. Barge also completed eight passes for 48 yards in the contest. Eric Fiege (WR, 5-9, 175, Jr., San Diego, Calif.) caught three passes for 28 yards. Leading the defense was
Chris Devaughn (DB, 6-1, 170, So., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) who tallied seven total tackles including five solo tackles.
Freedom McCullough (DB, 6-2, 190, So., Valley Village, Calif.) and
Cody Hendrickson (DB, 5-10, 185, Sr., Wright, Minn.) each had an interception for the Golden Eagles.
University of Mary (2-2, 1-2 NSIC)- Marice Burrough (CB, 6-0, 190, Sr., Billings, MT) and Andrew Richter (S, 6-0, 190, So., Bismarck, ND) both intercepted two passes against St. Cloud State University on Saturday. Burrough made the first of four U-Mary interceptions when he stepped in front of a Huskies receiver and scooted 46 yards down the sideline for a defensive touchdown, evening the game at 7-7. His second interception came in the end zone to stifle a potential scoring drive by SCSU. The senior also had two tackles…. Richter had interceptions in both the first and third quarters, returning the pair for 45 yards. He also had six tackles (five solo). SCSU was limited to 99 yards passing in the game…. John Oyloe (DE, 6-4, 240, So., Williston, ND) led the Marauders with seven tackles, including two for loss and a sack. Craig Bagnell (QB, 6-0, 180, Polson, MT) completed 18-of-27 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. The sophomore leads the NSIC in passing yardage (292.2 yards/game) and total offense (316.2 yards/game)… Evan Gross (RB, 5-9, 175, So., Napoleon, ND) scored one touchdown and ran for 67 yards plus caught two passes for 16… Bryan Sandy (TE, 6-3, 215, Jr., Harvey, ND) had a team-high five catches for 54 yards, including a 4-yard scoring reception.
