Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball Closes Out Regular Season this Weekend

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team closes out the regular season this Friday and Saturday with games at Wayne State and Augustana. The Golden Eagles are currently in the eighth and final spot to qualify for the NSIC Tournament. Wayne State is currently ranked ninth in the country and has clinched the NSIC regular season championship. Augustana in currently tied for sixth in the NSIC with MSU Moorhead. Friday's game against Wayne State is scheduled for 6 p.m. while Saturday's game with Augustana is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
MINNESOTA, CROOKSTON – (13-11, 10-10 NSIC) The Golden Eagle Women's Basketball team closed out its regular season home games this weekend against Upper Iowa and Winona State. Minnesota, Crookston looked to complete the season sweep of both teams and did just that defeating UIU 80-58 and WSU 77-63. UMC was led offensively by Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, So., Albertville, Minn.) who tallied 12 points against the Peacocks and lit up the scoreboard today knocking down a game-high 21 points and her second highest point total (24 vs. Mayville State) of the season. She was 4-11 from the field and a perfect 13-13 from the free-throw line to help the Golden Eagles dispose of the Warriors. She averaged 16.5 points/game in 24.5 minutes/game and was a perfect 13-13 from the free-throw line on the weekend.
 
#9 WAYNE STATE- (22-2, 19-1 NSIC) Ashley Arlen (F, 6-2, Jr., Cascade, Iowa) scored 25 points and became the 15th player in WSC women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points to lead the #9 Wildcats in a 75-55 win at Augustana, ending the Vikings' 18-game home court win streak in convincing fashion. Arlen scored 16 of her 25 points in the second half and her three pointer with 4:41 left in the game, her final points of the night, pushed her WSC career scoring total to 1,001 points, an achievement she has reached in just two seasons. Arlen was 9 of 17 from the field, 3 of 4 behind the three point line and 4 for 4 at the free throw stripe in helping WSC move to 22-2 on the season and 19-1 in the NSIC.
 
AUGUSTANA- (18-9, 11-9 NSIC) Megan Doyle (G, 5-8, Sr., Alexandria, S.D./Hanson HS) was just shy of a double-double in Augustana's only game this past weekend against travel partner No. 9 Wayne State, collecting 14 points and nine rebounds. All nine rebounds were defensive. She was 6 of 16 from the field in the afternoon. Doyle is currently third in the conference in steals and had one against the Wildcats.
