Golden Eagle Football Closes Out 2011 Season with Home Game against Rival Bemidji State

(Crookston, Minn.)-  The University of Minnesota, Crookston Football team closes out the 2011 season at home this Saturday, November 12 at Ed Widseth Field against Bemidji State University. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 49-7 loss to #15 Minnesota Duluth. Bemidji State is riding the momentum of a huge NSIC win over #6 St. Cloud State 19-14. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Minnesota, Crookston (1-9, 0-9 NSIC)- Minnesota, Crookston was on the road for the second straight weekend as the Golden Eagles traveled to Minnesota Duluth to take on the #15 ranked Bulldogs. UMC and UMD were tied at seven before Duluth scored 28 unanswered points to go into the break up 35-7. In the second half, the UMC defense held UMD to just 14 points but were unable to find the end zone themselves as Duluth went on to the 49-7 victory. The Golden Eagles were led by Tyler Hansen (RB, 6-0, 195, Fr., Morris, Minn.) who scored the squads only touchdown. He rushed five times for 36 yards including breaking a 28-yarder for a touchdown. Hansen averaged 7.2 yards/rush in the game. Richard Haley (RB, 6-0, 205, Jr., Detroit, Mich.) rushed 26 times for 86 yards with a long rush of 28 yards. Quarterback Josh Perea (QB, 6-0, 175, So., Pico Rivera, Calif.) completed two passes for 18 yards. Tight end Ben Viaene (TE, 6-1, 180, So., Hortonville, Wis.) caught three passes for 23 yards. The Golden Eagle defense was led by Brett Rice (DB, 5-10, 175, Jr., Poynette, Wis.) and Brody Davidson (LB, 6-1, 210, Fr., Crookston, Minn.) who tied for a game-high 12 tackles each. The Golden Eagle rushing offense is ranked second in the NSIC behind Minnesota Duluth with 2,359 yards (235.9 Yds/G). Haley stands alone on top of the NSIC in rushing with 1,420 yards. He averages 142 Yds/G and 5.2 Yds/Rush.
 
Bemidji State (7-3, 6-3 NSIC)- Lance Rongstad (QB, 6-3, 204, Jr-2L, Eleva, Wis. / Eleva-Strum HS) accounted for two touchdowns scores and totaled 195 offensive yards in the 19-14 upset of No. 6 St. Cloud State Saturday. He was 15-for-23 (65.2%) for 126 yards and a touchdown through the air and had a BSU-best 69 yards (12 attempts, 5.8 yards per attempt) and a score on the ground. He now has eight rushing touchdowns and eight passing touchdowns on the season. Brody Scheff (S, 6-0, 206, Sr-3L, Waconia, Minn. / Waconia HS) matched his career-high in tackles with 19 (seven solo) and forced and recovered a fumble in the 19-14 upset of No. 6 St. Cloud State Saturday. The caused and recovered miscue by SCSU was at BSU's one yard line to end a St. Cloud State drive that had gone six plays for 48 yards. The play happened at the end of the first quarter when the Huskies were up 7-6. The tackle total ties his own mark for second-most in the NSIC this season. Scheff posted 19 tackles in the 26-23 loss to then-No. 11 Minnesota Duluth Sept. 24. He has 90 tackles this season to rank fifth in the NSIC. Zach Pulkinen (K, 5-9, 196, So-1L, Minot, N.D. / College of Idaho) kicked off four times for 261 yards (65.2 yards per kick) and two touchbacks in the 19-14 upset of No. 6 St. Cloud State Saturday. He was also 2-for-3 for extra points.
