Box Score (Duluth, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Football was on the road for the second straight weekend as the Golden Eagles traveled to Minnesota Duluth to take on the #6 ranked Bulldogs. UMC and UMD were tied at seven before Duluth scored 28 unanswered points to go into the break up 35-7. In the second half, the UMC defense held UMD to just 14 points but were unable to find the end zone themselves as Duluth went on to the 49-7 victory.
Minnesota Duluth put points on the board first as Brian Lucas rushed for a four yard touchdown capping off a seven play, 70 yard drive. The Golden Eagles responded with a seven play 71 yard drive that saw
Tyler Hansen (RB, 6-0, 195, Fr., Morris, Minn.) scamper 28 yards for a Minnesota, Crookston score. Following the UMC score, UMD saw touchdowns from Ben Helmer, Brian Lucas, Zach Hulce and a 65 yard punt return by Aaron Roth. Roth found the end zone again in the third quarter on a 24 yard touchdown pass from Chase Vogler. In the fourth quarter, Jon Lynch closed out the scoring with a one yard touchdown rush with 12:38 left in the game.
The Golden Eagles were led by Hansen who scored the squads only touchdown. He rushed five times for 36 yards including breaking a 28-yarder for a touchdown. Hansen averaged 7.2 yards/rush in the game.
Richard Haley (RB, 6-0, 205, Jr., Detroit, Mich.) rushed 26 times for 86 yards with a long rush of 28 yards. Quarterback Josh Perea (QB, 6-0, 175, So., Pico Rivera, Calif.) completed two passes for 18 yards. Tight end
Ben Viaene (TE, 6-1, 180, So., Hortonville, Wis.) caught three passes for 23 yards. The Golden Eagle defense was led by
Brett Rice (DB, 5-10, 175, Jr., Poynette, Wis.) and
Brody Davidson (LB, 6-1, 210, Fr., Crookston, Minn.) who tied for a game-high 12 tackles each.
Minnesota Duluth was led by quarterback Chase Vogler who completed 11 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Vogler also rushed for 54 yards and averaged 7.7 yards/rush. Steve Ierulli rushed 15 times for 76 yards in the contest. Wide receiver Aaron Roth caught three passes for 41 yards and one touchdown. Rob Huberty led the Bulldog defense with nine total tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss.
Minnesota, Crookston is now 1-9 on the season and 0-9 in the NSIC. Minnesota Duluth advances to 8-2 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Golden Eagles close out the 2011 season at home on Saturday, November 12. UMC hosts Bemidji State at Ed Widseth Field with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
