No. 14 St. Cloud State Uses Balanced Offensive Attack to Defeat Minnesota, Crookston 66-13

Jordan Lecher with a Touchdown Reception
Box Score (Crookston, Minn.)-  The University of Minnesota, Crookston Football team hosted number 14 ranked St. Cloud State University today at Ed Widseth Field. The Huskies combined for 770 yards of total offense on 83 total plays to run away with a 66-13 NSIC victory.

St. Cloud put points on the board first as Dante Steward capped a nine play, 70 yard drive with a one yard rush to put SCSU up 7-0. Minnesota, Crookston responded with a six play 34 yard drive that kicker Chris Secrest (K, 5-11, 170, Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) finished with a career-high 44 yard field goal to get UMC on the board 7-3. SCSU went up 14-3 with a score by Michael Walker on a 20 yard run. On the ensuing drive, UMC was faced with a fourth down and 11 yards to go, when the Golden Eagles pulled out the fake punt with a direct snap to Trent Nyhus (FB, 6-1, 220, Sr., Almena, Wis.) who rushed 17 yards for a UMC first down. Unfortunately, on the very next play, the Golden Eagles fumbled the ball which was recovered by SCSU. Before the Huskies could even snap the ball, they were stuck with a five yard false start and a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct to move to first down and 30. The extra yardage didn't affect St. Cloud as Klaphake hit Chad Peterson on the first play of the drive for an 82 yards touchdown strike that took just 13 seconds. UMC responded and at the 1:31 mark of the first quarter, Secrest hit a 40 yard field goal to make the score 21-6. The Husky offense took control in the second and third quarters scoring 31 unanswered points to go up 52-6. Minnesota, Crookston found the end zone at the 3:05 mark of the third quarter when quarterback A.J. Barge (QB, 6-3, 190, Fr., Carrollton, Ga.) made a beautiful pass to wide receiver Jordan Lecher (WR, 6-3, 195, Jr., Litchfield, Minn.) for a 16 yard touchdown strike that capped an eight play, 74 yard drive that took 3:35. SCSU found the end zone two more times before the final buzzer and took the victory 66-13.

The Golden Eagle offense was led by Barge who completed six passes for 54 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed 11 times for 34 yards with a long of 18 yards. Richard Haley (RB, 6-0, 205, Jr., Detroit, Mich.) rushed 23 times for 74 yards and averaged 3.2 yards/rush. Lecher caught two passes for 29 yards with one touchdown. The Golden Eagle offense was 2-2 inside the red-zone on the day. Defensive back Freedom McCullough (DB, 6-2, 190, So., Valley Village, Calif.) followed up an 11 tackle game against Northern State with a 13 tackle day today including 12 solo tackles.
