(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Football team returns to Ed Widseth Field this Saturday, October 22 to host St. Cloud State University. The Golden Eagles are coming off of a 45-21 loss to Northern State while SCSU defeated Southwest Minnesota State 24-17. The Ed Widseth Award and Agassiz Bowl recipients will be recognized at halftime of the game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Minnesota, Crookston (1-6, 0-6 NSIC)- Minnesota, Crookston traveled to Northern State on Saturday to take on the Wolves. NSU used three third quarter touchdowns to take the 45-21 victory. The Golden Eagles were led by quarterback A.J. Barge (QB, 6-3, 190, Fr., Carrollton, Ga.) who rushed 16 times for 117 yards with a long rush of 48 yards and a rushing average of 7.3 yards/rush. Barge also completed seven passes for 62 yards.
Richard Haley (RB, 6-0, 205, Jr., Detroit, Mich.) rushed 21 times for 138 yards and scored a career-high three touchdowns. He had a long rush of 39 yards and averaged 6.6 yards/rush.
Eric Fiege (WR, 5-9, 175, Jr., San Diego, Calif.) led the Golden Eagle receiving core with four catches for 32 yards. Linebacker
Cecil Brown (LB, 5-10, 205, Jr., Edison, Ga.) had a sensational game recording a game-high 13 tackles (5 solo, 8 assisted). UMC was 3-3 on fourth down conversions and 3-3 on red zone scoring chances.
St. Cloud State (6-1, 5-1 NSIC)- St. Cloud State improved to 6-1 overall, 5-1 NSIC with a 24-17 win over SMSU. The Huskies are 15-1 all-time against the Mustangs. The win marked the 30th career win for fourth year head coach Scott Underwood making him the first SCSU coach to reach the 30-win mark in four seasons. Underwood is 30-12 overall. Brad Meade (Jr., QB, Chippewa Falls, Wis.) in his second straight start, had a career day com¬pleting 12 of 23 passes for 200 yards and touchdowns of 12 and 32 yards. Renard Robinson (So., WR, Bloomington, Minn.) caught a career high five passes for 77 yards and one touchdown. The Huskies intercepted three SMSU passes and Marvin Matthews (Jr., DB, Roseville, Minn.) had the key pick late in the fourth quarter, thwarting a potential game tying drive and giving the Huskies the ball with :13 seconds left in the game.
