The 1973 UMC Football Team was undefeated with a 9 - 0 record for the season. Coached by Daryl Ramey, the victorious football team ended their season with first place honors in the conference, first in the state and fourth in the nation. UMC defeated Lakewood 45 to 28 to win the State Championship. UMC's offense averaged 34 points per game while holding their opposition to an average of just 10 points per game. The team was led by co-captains and all-conference players, Ron Green and Mark Linnell. Coach Ramey was presented with the 1973 Football Coach of the Year Award. Another indication of their team superiority was the fact that Mark Linnell and Gary Wagner were selected to the Little All- American national football team.
